Sloan Was Action Pact at Koolhaus

November 7, 2003
We all know and love Sloan for putting Canada at the top of the charts, but few know of their humble beginnings. Halifax is a city that few outside the area knew; until Sloan put their hometown on the map of musical talent. Sloan was formed in 1991 by four college students ready to take the international market by storm. Rocky beginnings never slowed them down. Making the best music they can possibly make has always been the focus of the band who plays what they call "screeching guitar pop".

In 1992 after recording their debut CD "Smeared" - which was recorded in a house in Halifax – Sloan traveled across Canada. They played to many empty pubs until they hit Vancouver, where they began to catch the eye of the local scene. Sloan has since released more than six CD's – the latest "Action Pact" was released this past summer. The band has released over 30 singles, and appeared on numerous compilations, around the world.

Sloan started their own record label Murderecords to promote their own work. The label has grown to support local Halifax and other east coast bands. East coast bands no longer have to travel to the "big city" to record and play music.

Sloan plays the Koolhaus in Toronto November 7th 2003.
