Third Day have switched gears with Revelation by going more rock based, but they may be the better for it. The opening track “This Is Who I Am” leaves some of their country-tinged roots in tact, but delivers sharp guitar offset by Mac Powell’s signature baritone vocals. “Slow Down” is performed with Chris Daughtry on backing vocals and has a great hook on the guitar. “Call My Name” (which the band recently performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno) is a classic radio friendly single with an aftertaste of hope rather than Top 40 sweet. “Otherside” is southern rock all out and I can see a lot of dancing to this track and singing “take me to the other side cause I need something better!”
Flyleaf’s Lacey Mosley does some brilliant work on “Run To You” which has some harder rock vibes and in contrast her re-appearance on “Born Again” is a delicate ballad with Mosley’s vocals piercing straight to the heart and captivating you with Powell’s vocals as the perfect offset. Whether you’re a long time fan of Third Day or interested in an album with a variety of rock picks and added new edge to the band, this album is excellent and worth checking out.
