John Mayer

Album Title: The Village Sessions
Release Date: 2007
Rating:
Genre: Blues Rock
John Mayer is back with another 'off the beaten track' album. A less commercially driven project, The Village Sessions is a stripped down sampler of his most recent hit album Continuum. Mayer again shows why he's such a talented success, re-working and re-molding full band arrangements of his songs into musically intriguing solo works. He does, however, get some help on his single, "Waiting On The World To Change," including guest vocals by Ben Harper. It seems that he also held on to Ben Harper's influence to use again later, mirroring his vocal styling on his painfully heart breaking "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room." Writing, performing and producing the entire album, Mayer shows his true creative ability; he even designed the cover artwork. Although perhaps a little disappointing without any new songs to hear, The Village Sessions is a great addition to any John Mayer fan's collection.
