Marina V

Album Title: Simple Magic
Release Date: April 16, 2005
Genre: Pop
Marina V has what could be described as a dinner theatre voice. That is, her vocals aren't particularly strong and they aren't particularly striking. They're not horrible, but they're definitely not show stopping. And therein lies the main problem with the Russian-born pianist's debut full-length. The lyric-driven pop Marina V is pushing depends on at least one stand-out feature to separate it from all the rest. And, unfortunately, her weak vocals are accompanied by flat melodies and insipid lyrics. There's not a whole lot to draw listeners to Simple Magic. Especially not when shuffled in with the hundreds of other run-of-the-mill albums.
