Ten West are four twenty-something boys from Orange Country. It's kind of defining, no? And yes, I've heard all those things about not judging a book by its cover, thank you very much. Go ahead and forget the physical and geographical description. You're still left with a fairly typical pop/rock quartet that possesses a penchant for acoustic guitar, and an album with a pleasing mixture of rousing rockers and reflective heart-wrenchers. A nice sprinkling of sandpaper even allows lead vocalist Jon Ogden to let loose punches of emotion, giving the band's self-titled debut a tried-and-true mainstream rock sound. There's nothing horrible about Ten West, but there's nothing amazing either. If one of their songs catches on and becomes the next big smash hit (ala Hoobastank's "The Reason"), they could be the next big video stars. But if not, then, not.
