It's been 5 years since the London three-piece known as South first offered up an album of tunes for the world to put its ears to. Since then they've released two more, the latest being this year's lengthily titled Adventures in the Underground Journey To The Stars. Appropriately enough, the 11-track record begins with the sounds of a passing train, and then breaks into sparkling, reverberating guitar and brilliantly breathy vocals. And it's the interplay between these hyper-active sounding guitar and the sleepy vocals that really put South in a good place. Although they've definitely got the Brit Pop thing going on, there's no danger of South getting stuck in a rut, or being referred to as a "insert British pop band here" rip-off. Lush and multi-layered, Adventures is eager and willing to please from start to finish.
