Genre: Blues/Rock
Mike Younger's soul is covered in grit. At least that's how it sounds when it's coming up out of his mouth. The Halifax singer's country-tinged soul music is based around his brilliant bluesy vocals. If there's one thing that country, soul, and blues music have in common, it's that they're all down-and-dirty, no-holds-barred emotional styles of music. They present life without any gloss, and their lyrics hold a worldliness missing from pop and rock. Younger's newest album contains all these qualities. Leaving his Nova Scotia home at the age of 17 to drift around the continent, the musician has finally settled down in New York City. If that doesn't account for a good "real life" album, nothing does. And, like any good soul album, Every Stone You Throw isn't short on guest vocals from Southern gospel choirs either.
