Depeche Mode

Album Title: Violator (Deluxe Edition CD+DVD)
Release Date: June 6, 2006
Genre: Synth-Pop
To honour one of the most successful and popular bands of all time Rhino records has decided to release three remastered and expanded Depeche Mode albums. The albums include their best work from, Speak & Spell, Music For The Masses and Violator. Each 2-disc set includes their original albums on CD, plus a DVD featuring 5.1 and remastered stereo mixes, bonus tracks, and a short film about the production of each album. An additional booklet also features rare photos, lyrics, and the story behind each album.

Violator was the bands most successful outing, creating such a buzz that mobs of people lined up outside an L.A. music store for a glimpse of their favorite band as seen on the included DVD. The DVD portion of the Violator set features interviews with the band, producer (Flood), album mixer (Francios), and their tour manager, among many others. The short film really helps to bring you into the creative process that was put into the production of Violator, and explains what helped to make their album and each song so successful. With classic tracks ranging from energetic dance hits to emotional and industrial tinged works of genius, it's easy to see the brilliance behind each song.

The problem with re-issues however are that they had better include plenty of additional material to make buying the CD all over again worth it. While Violator includes cool features such as the 5.1 surround sound mix for those systems that have that ability and added bonus tracks, it falls flat by not including material such as their music videos, remixes or concert footage. This re-issue therefore will best suit those who missed buying the album the first time around or for those hard-core fans who just need this piece of history to add to their collection and reminisce with the old days of Depeche Mode.
