Once upon a time, Rob Dickinson was the vocalist for '90s alt-rock band Catherine Wheel. Then after a decade that brought only moderate success and nothing above underground status, the English group headed to the dreaded Hiatusville. Five years after Catherine Wheel's last record comes Dickinson's first solo effort, Fresh Wine For The Horses. Maybe this time commercial success will be Dickinson's, just maybe. Not unlike Catherine Wheel, he's definitely got the potential. The 11-tracks of Fresh Wine wouldn't be out of place on an AC station, but they also could find their way over to rock radio. There's nothing utterly spectacular about the record, but then again, that goes for most music. The absolute best track, bar none, is "Towering and Flowering", including the beautiful hidden bit, as it showcases the best guitars and vocals on the album.
