Whitney Wolanin

Album Title: Funkology XIII
Release Date: July 12, 2005
Genre: Pop
It's hard to believe when listening to Whitney Wolanin that she is only 15 years-old. She has a strong, deep, soulful voice that sounds much older than she is. And she was only 13 when she recorded the album.

The tracks on Funkology XIII are a mixture of pop tunes and R&B soul classics. Nearly every one is upbeat, like the first release, "Good", and the familiar Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston song, "It Takes Two," which she sings with Jimi Jamison. She also does her own renditions of "Heat Wave", "Head to Toe" and "This Old Heart of Mine," among others.

Wolanin does a good job of making the well-known songs different and unique, but at the same time there is something missing. She often sounds as amateur as she must be at such a young age. Her voice lacks something; a smoothness that comes with experience. Even though Funkology XIII is a studio album, she often sounds like she is singing live, sometimes missing notes and sounding a little flat.

Wolanin clearly has talent, and a huge voice that will bring her far. She just needs to gain some more experience and maybe some original songs that showcase her personality better.
