Album Title: Silence is Easy
Release Date: January 17, 2004
Genre: Alternative
I am all for grandiose orchestral accompaniment when the band in question has the passion to back it up. Starsailor is not one of those bands. Each track is layered with almost-cheesy instrumentation, not the blow-you-away variety Phil Spector is noted for (though he may have other things on his mind lately). The foundation: James Walsh's constant pining for some unrequited love, nasally lashing out at everyone who just doesn't understand him. Oh boo hoo. This is the kind of music 14-year-old sentimentalists eat up. Then, when they grow a little older and a little wiser, they laugh at their folly for buying such shlock. Silence is Easy is a great album for the freshly broken-hearted, still irrational in their grief. For the rest of us, it's painfully contrived.
