"Bear & The Barbed Wire", the lead-track off Bear Music, sets the stage for the rest of what's to come on Mark Bragg's second full-length release. The Newfoundland singer-songwriter sets quirky lyrics to quirky music, all of which he leads with his quirky voice. Warbling and wavering all over the place, Bragg's music is weighted by the pounding of the kick drum, the beer-drinking bounce of the organ, and the always trustworthy bass guitar. Bragg has tons o' fun with his music, but he also takes the opportunity to slow down once in a while too, as showcased on "Song For Marvin" and "The Bridge." While not his strongest suit, the ballads show his ability to punch up the emotion factor amidst the otherwise bouncy record.
