Sufjan Stevens

Album Title: Illinoise
Release Date: July 5, 2005
Genre: Rock
The Hype Machine can be a scary beast, bringing promises of rock saviours and musical innovators, only to pull the carpet from under your feet at the exact moment when you thought you'd found just what you'd been looking for your entire music-obsessed life. Not so with Illinoise. The album has already been given so much page space that it would be pointless to reiterate that it's the second instalment in Stevens' 50 State Project, or that the delicate melodies are heavenly no matter what sort of bizarre situation is being sung about (but there, I just did it). Illinoise is at that point in the spotlight journey where all music fans will have to listen and decide for themselves. As for this music fan, my only complaint is that it's too hard to get through the whole disc; it's much, much too tempting to hit the repeat button on "John Wayne Gacy, Jr."
