With over five full length releases Plans is Death Cab For Cutie's first major-label debut after moving from indie label Barsuk to signing with Atlantic Records. Some say this usually changes a band for the worst, but in this case Death Cab For Cutie has held onto their creative control and has released a polished and mature recording.

Fronted by Ben Gibbard's bittersweet and stark lyrics "Plans" takes this quartet from Bellingham, WA through a musical experience. Death Cab For Cutie's mellow indie pop sound is heard through this album in the form of acoustic guitars, light electronic instrumentation, soaring organ work, percussion and heart rending lyrics.

I've got to say, I'm a sucker for a lush melodic piano, perfectly illustrated on tracks like "Brothers On A Hotel Bed" which pulls all the right cords. "Marching Bands Of Manhattan", "Summer Skin", and their single "Soul Meets Body" all blend inventive metaphors into love songs and the journey to get there. Containing numerous ballads and quiet unassuming songs you tend to sit there waiting for something to take hold of the beat and drive things up, but Plans never gets boring and brings everything the group does best to the forefront.
