Melanie Durrant

Album Title: Where Iím Goin'
Release Date: September 27, 2005
Genre: R&B/Pop
Melanie Durrant is all business on her newest disc, Where I'm Goin'. That's not to say she doesn't have fun, but there's definitely no room to fool around. First single "Bang Bang" shows up early on, making up with its ingenuity for the run-of-the-mill pop love song that follows it. The biggest misstep on the album, "Feel The Same" sounds like it could've be ripped from the latest Keisha Chante album, with Durrant opting for silky, R&B vocals instead of her usual brilliant, nasally falsetto. The good news is that the majority of the 14-track record is as strong as "Bang Bang", particularly the slow and coy "You Ask For It". Carrying more talent in her pinky finger than all of the other teen-oriented R&B singers out there combined, Durrant's name should be mentioned with Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald in mind, not Ciara and Rhianna. Hopefully Durrant is well aware of this and never ever falls into the mainstream marketing trap.
