Flailing vocals and plenty of synths should help Philadelphia band Persona pinch a gaggle of fans with their new record Hard-Work For Hang-Ups. Although they have a track called "Sick of Dancing", the trio's music is perfect for it, with its choppy beats and bouncing bass. Found smack-dab in the middle of the album, "Hold You Close" is the most addictive song on the record, incorporating all of Persona's best elements. It'd be easy to bounce the band off comparisons to Hot Hot Heat and Franz Ferdinand, but there's not really any point to that, because at times Persona veer completely off that track. Every once in a while they even venture into singer/songwriter territory, like with ballad "Bullet". It's a great track, but it's not clear whether the people heard talking in the background are actually supposed to be heard or not.
