Andrea Lewis

Album Title: Float Away
Release Date: September 20, 2005
Genre: Pop
Ah, Degrassi. How the world loves you so, and in a surprisingly un-ironic way. While Degrassi: The Next Generation cast member Andrea Lewis would probably prefer not to have every single review of her debut disc mention her TV show, it's just so hard not to. Hoping to become the Canadian equivalent of Hilary Duff, Lewis' album will be certain to please the section of Degrassi fans who don't know who Wheels and Yick are. Lewis' vocals are front-and-center on every track on Float Away, and it comes off sounding a little over-produced, especially with the extensive vocal dubbing used. However, for the mainstream-directed pop it contains, the 13-track album isn't really any worse off than all the other singer/actor albums out there - except for the fact that it doesn't have the cash-backing that Lohan's and Duff's have (check: zero promotion). Here's hoping Lewis can escape legions of fans referring to her as Hazel, the trappings of being a Canadian pop artist, and that Zit Remedy put out a record.
