LaMontagne's debut album seems to be a newfound staple of Americana roots/blues. Refreshingly comfortable as Van Morrison was to those of previous decades, now LaMontagne reaches out and puts a good dose of 'Trouble' at the door of a new generation. He grew up throughout America with the sacrifices and blessings of living life in the consistency of change, much of how his songs are reflected.

His vocals are coarse and inviting, and like old leather shoes he has a story to tell with each of his songs. "Trouble", the title track, is the key to understanding the album's good graces with its melodic timelessness and the folk symphony that LaMontagne captures with such ease, especially on "Jolene".
