Mix Master Mike

Album Title: Bangzilla
Release Date: October 19, 2004
Genre: Electronica
Best known as the point man on the tables for The Beastie Boys, Mix Master Mike has a history that goes far deeper than the quasi-righteous chicanery he engages in with his meal ticket. Bangzilla is his new album and it is what it is: an album of staggered beats with some scratching and a whole lotta vocal samples from movie, television and beyond. Unlike a lot of turntablists, MMM allows room to breath by not scratching to the point of miasma, which is a good thing because it can get pretty tiresome minute after minute, track after track. However, this album doesn't have a whole lot to offer otherwise. The beats are fairly generic, the songs seem a bit underdeveloped and overall, it's a proportionately boring listen. I guess that's why they call him Mix Master Mike and not Singer/Songwriter Master Mike or even International Recording Artist Master Mike. Toot-a-loo.
