Album Title: Jonas
Release Date: September 28, 2004
Genre: Rock
He looks a bit like a cross between one of The Strokes and uber-guitarist Slash, and his music lies somewhere in the middle of those two too. Jonas bangs out tunes harder than your run-of-the-mill garage band, but still more toned down than Velvet Revolver's raunch rock. The Montrealer's eponymous debut delivers consistently; it features tracks ranging from rock anthems reminiscent of Aerosmith ('Daddy') to rock ballads that bare the singer's heart ('Like a River', 'Show Me'). Jonas' vocals are a huge asset, particularly when he dips into the blues (which is often) with more soul than white guys are supposed to be capable of. Guitarist Corey Diabo is as big of a star on the album as Jonas is, delivering lightening quick licks with some awe-inspiring chops. Evoking the days when musicians honoured rock'n'roll's deep blues roots, 'Jonas' begs you to steal a '68 Mustang convertible and cruise down the highway with the top down and volume turned up to 10.
