The Trews. Our Lady Peace. Switchfoot. Rooney. All the chords that these bands strike are the same that From Satellite is tapping away on. Accessible rock is what the Californian five-piece specializes in, but thankfully they have a leg up on many other radio-friendly acts, just like the other aforementioned bands. Contrary to common practice, From Satellite doesn't sink to preying on adolescent angst as readily as many a popular rock act today. Very catchy and hooky, the five-piece's debut album is jam packed with 12 songs that could be heard blasting from any teenager's stereo, and probably will be given some time. Frontman Ian McDonnell provides thick, slightly raspy vocals typical to the genre, and guitarists Armand Tambouris and Ryan Cleary add enough riffs to get the kids playing air guitar when they think no one is looking. With just the right mix of pop and rock, From Satellite is a gateway drug to the wide world of music, and for that we should all be thankful.
