Ronan Keating

Album Title: Turn It On
Release Date: May 2004
Genre: Pop
"Turn It On" is an appropriate title for Ronan Keating's new album judging from the cover photo that features him flaunting his newly-developed muscular physique in a tight tank top and jeans. The former lead singer of the British band Boyzone has matured into a major heartthrob, but thankfully Keating is more than just a talented pop star. He co-wrote 12 of the 14 songs on the CD, including the radio friendly singles "Lost For Words" and "Last Thing On My Mind," a duet with LeAnn Rimes.

"It feels like I have been trying to make this album for ten years and I feel that I am finally giving you a piece of me," he says of the project.

The title track is an uptempo rock song as is "Back In The Day." But the rest of the album is ballad-heavy and often has a country flavor, which is also suggested by his decision to cover the Kenny Rogers hit "She Believes In Me." Keating sings it in a style very consistent with the original, written by Steve Gibb. He also covers Terence Trent D'Arby's "Let Her Down Easy."

With a voice that epitomizes an awkward 15-year-old boy searching for his place in the world, Keating is a major star in Britain and is hoping for a breakthrough in North America. He seems well poised. He's a triple threat: a talented singer, a prolific writer and he's pretty easy on the eyes. It seems that one hit or successful collaboration could push him over the top here as well.
