The Fiery Furnaces Excite The Hipsters

Published: 2004-08-05
They can now official be called the biggest new stars/hope/secret of the scenester world. They're probably one of the more original acts to surface in years and they're helping to lift the White Stripes shroud that's been placed over the entire state of Illinois. That's right, it's the Fiery Furnaces and they're bringing their air clearing music to Canada.

The Friedberger siblings will be heading back to the good ol' U.S. of A. after taking part in the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK. They will then play 11 dates in North America, with two gigs scheduled in Canada. Since the Fiery Furnaces are getting most hipsters more excited than a new pair of horn-rimmed glasses, both shows will probably sell out fairly quickly.

The album that the Fiery Furnaces will be supporting during their tour is the newly released 'Blueberry Boat'. It's the group's second full-length album, which makes it the follow-up to 2003's 'Gallowsbird's Bark'. Both records were released through Rough Trade/Sanctuary Records, making the Furnaces label mates with twee-pop band Belle & Sebastian and the rockin' and rollin' Libertines.

Although their music is a bit hard to warm up to, listening to the Fiery Furnaces is guaranteed to make you very, very cool with the other music nerds and/or scenester elite. That and the fact that art-rock band Franz Ferdinand took them out on tour is enough to make any hipster drool uncontrollably over the Friedbergers.

The Fiery Furnaces' Canadian stops:

September 11 Montreal – El Salon
September 12 Toronto – Mod Club
