Of Montreal Goes To Montreal

Published: 2004-08-04
Out supporting their newest album 'Satanic Panic in the Attic' is American band, Of Montreal. This September will see the band add a total of fourteen gigs onto their tour history. Of Montreal will hit two Canadian cities during the fall tour, one of which is their namesake.

Although Of Montreal's newest released has gained the group some extra attention from new fans, they've been on the scene for quite a while longer than 'Satanic Panic in the Attic'. The power pop band's first foray into the world of music came in the form of 1997's 'Cherry Peel'. Of Montreal has since released six other full-length albums.

Hailed as Of Montreal's best album to date, 2004's 'Satanic Panic in the Attic' is the brainchild of Kevin Barnes. Barnes basically created the album himself, writing all of the songs and recreating the sound that Of Montreal has become known for.

To check out how the band has evolved over the past seven years, head on over to www.ofmontreal.net. Once there you can download a few songs off of every one of Of Montreal's releases, for absolutely free.

Wondering how an American band ended up with such a Canadian name? When the love affair between lead singer Kevin Barnes and a woman from Montreal came to an end, Barnes was inspired to start a band. Of course, that band was christened Of Montreal. Just one more way a Canadian has contributed to music (and thankfully not in a bad way either).

Of Montreal's Canadian gigs:

September 24 Montreal – Que-El Salon
September 25 Toronto – TBA
