Battle of the Simons Over American Idol Star Signings

Published: 2004-07-29
Simon Fuller who owns 19 Entertainment and is the creator of the Idol shows is in a legal dispute with Simon Cowell - 'the brutal truth' American Idol judge and Fuller's former business partner. Cowell's company BMG has the rights to distribute the music of artists signed through 19 Entertainment as a result of the Idol shows. Currently, Fuller is trying to sign the latest Idol crop of American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino and runner-up Diana Degarmo to a contract with rival record label Universal.

Artists who are signed by 19 Entertainment have every aspect of their life and career managed and overseen by the company. They will not disclose figures, but the artists are required to give 19 Entertainment much more than the usual 10 or 15 percent.

Barrino and Degarmo are currently on tour with fellow American Idol Top 10 from season three of American Idol as a part of Idols on Tour.
