Hawksley Workman Keeps On Trucking

Published: 2004-07-26
Canada's quirkiest singer-songwriter Hawksley Workman has two performances scheduled for this summer. One will take place in St. John's, Newfoundland and the other at the Edmonton Folk Festival.

These summer dates come at the end of Workman's world tour during which he supported his last album 'Lover/Fighter'. He was forced to cancel a series of European dates in March of this year when a loud speaker injured his ear at a show in Paris. Fortunately, Workman was well enough to keep most of his Canadian dates in April. Excepting the days Workman took off to recover, he's pretty much been touring for the entire year, non-stop.

Although Workman hasn't received the amount of admiration he deserves in his native Canada, the musician has had lots of luck in France. In fact, Hawksley's last video, called 'No Reason To Cry Out Your Eyes (On The Highway Tonight)' features French actress Marion Cotillard (she was in Tim Burton's 'Big Fish'). The video was even filmed in France (it seems he's taken to his adoptive home quite nicely).

Even though Workman's album sales in Canada aren't record setting, he still does receive some recognition. He was nominated for three Much Music Video Awards this year, although he didn't win any.

Hawksley's summer dates:

July 31 St John's – George St. Festival
August 05 Edmonton – Edmonton Folk Festival
