Linda Ronstadt Banned For Tribute To Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11

Published: 2004-07-22
While on stage at the Aladdin in Las Vegas singer Linda Ronstadt dedicated a song to filmmaker Michael Moore, calling Moore a "great American patriot, someone who is seeking the truth". For her comments Ronstadt was booed and cheered in equal parts. About half of the more than 4,000 concert goers left the show with some tarring down concert posters and throwing cocktails.

As a result Aladdin President Bill Timmins barred Ronstadt from the property. Timmins said that people come to Las Vegas from all over the world to be entertained and the stage is not the place for Ronstadt's political comments. Aladdin staff checked Ronstadt out of her hotel room and escorted the singer to her tour bus. Ronstadt was not pleased by the treatment but left without incident.

Ronstadt is the latest of stars who has been dismissed for speaking her mind.
