This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of rock 'n' roll music. It also marks the fiftieth anniversary for one of rock music's greatest stars - the Fender Stratocaster guitar. On September 24 at a benefit in Wembley Arena in London, UK some of rock music's living legends of guitar playing will meet in a historical event that can only be brought about by music.
David Gilmour will be playing the serial number 0001 Stratocaster. The guitar was one of the very first created by Leo Fender in 1954. It is rumoured that the performance will be the last time Gilmour plays the guitar in public.
Among those confirmed to appear and participate in the historical event are:
Bruce Dickenson - Iron Maiden
Adrian Smith - Iron Maiden
Nicko McBrain - Iron Maiden
Tony Iommi - Black Sabbath
Natthias Jabs - The Scorpions
David Gilmour - Pink Floyd
Joe Walsh - The Eagles
Hank Marvin - The Shadows
Phil Manzanera - Roxy Music
Paul Rodgers - Free, Bad Company
Mike Rutherford - Mike and the Mechanics
Paul Carrack - Mike and the Mechanics
Gary Moore
Amy Winehouse and Jamie Cullum will join the guitar greats on the stage. One of the most famous Stratocaster players in history was the great Jimi Hendrix.
