The Hives Blow Into Town

Published: 2004-07-15
Everybody's favourite band The Hives will be playing in Canada for just one date during their North American tour. The five Swedes will hit Toronto on July 24th, before returning to the States to finish off the 15 date tour.

The day that The Hives kick off the tour is coincidently the same day that their new album will be picked up. That album is 'Tyrannosaurus Hives', the band's third full-length record (which is also the Hives' major-label debut). The first single off of 'Tyrannosaurus Hives' comes in the form of 'Walk Idiot Walk', a blistering rocker that is already climbing its way up the charts.

With the new album The Hives are hoping to recreate the success that they enjoyed in 2002, during the height of the garage rock craze. Although they had released two LPs previously, the group found notoriety with a greatest hits album of sorts called 'Your New Favourite Band'.

Having the word 'The' at the front of their band name, along with lead singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist's amazingly pompous airs helped The Hives to position themselves at the front of the early 2000s music scene. The world will have to wait a few more days to see whether or not the five-piece can place themselves on top once again.
