Li'nard and His Many Moods

Published: 2004-07-05
"I'm not going to conform," said Christopher Li'nard Jackson – who goes simply by Li'nard. The Richmond, Virginia native now makes his home in New York City. Li'nard has been singing and playing since he was eight years old. The singer – songwriter currently plays bass guitar, but he also learned the violin.

Li'nard is well versed in a variety of musical styles and mixes up the songs to the point that he may play a different style on every song. But Li'nard doesn't stop with music; he also uses comedy as a way to keep the audience going. Li'nard is not afraid to stop playing in the middle of a song to inquire why someone is leaving the club.

Over the years Li'nard has contributed his musical talents to some 50 albums. But his goal is not to have a hit record, it's to own his own club.

Li'nard believes in freedom of speech and will change the lyrics of a song to suit him and his mood. Record executives are a favourite target for Li'nard who says that they "take the fun out of being a musician." Li'nard feels that record companies are obsessed with selling records even if the person isn't very talented.

On his own career Li'nard says, "I'm gong to have fun despite how much money I make." Li'nard passes a metal bucket around after each show.
