Brian Setzer Orchestra To Release Live Set

Published: 2004-07-05
An artist who is not afraid to try the, what if I musically did this with this game; Brian Setzer has carved a niche in the music world for himself and his band mates, not once but twice. And he launched a music craze that spawned numerous other bands in the process.

In his newest release – due out July 13 - The Brian Setzer Orchestra "The Ultimate Collection" is a double CD set recorded live in Montreal and Tokyo. The set includes the old swing tunes from the 1940s played Brian Setzer style and songs from Brian's Stray Cats days. The first disc includes 15 tracks from the 1995 Montreal show. The second disc includes 16 tracks from a concert in Tokyo in 2001.

On July 5 Setzer and his band mates from the Stray Cats – Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker - will spend a month in Europe on tour as a re-united Stray Cats. There are currently no plans for the Cats beyond the current tour.

On the subject of the Stray Cats, BMG is releasing some time in July another Stray Cats collection. This particular collection has not been authorized by the band nor were they consulted when BMG was creating the collection. There may be a few songs on the CD that have previously been unheard by Cats fans; incidentally the band hasn't heard them either. Nor will the band receive any money from the sales of the collection. Setzer reports on his website that only recordings that are issued on the "Surfdog Records" label are official Stray Cats or Brian Setzer releases. On his website Setzer acknowledges that BMG has the right to release the Stray Cats CD, but he is encouraging fans not to purchase this particular release.
