Steve Winwood Collaborates With File Sharing Networks

Published: 2004-06-30
Traffic founder, Grammy award winning artist, and Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame member Steve Winwood is the first major artist to lend his name and music to file sharing networks.

Winwood has freely made available an audio and a video file for fans to share. The audio file is a previously unreleased eight minute live version of "Dear Mr. Fantasy". The video file is partial footage of Winwood in rehearsal. Each file has a short ad which directs fans to the website of the syndicated television program "Access Hollywood". The "Access Hollywood" website in turn offers more music from Winwood and a chance to win a guitar autographed by Winwood. A separate link on the website directs fans to where they can purchase a copy of Steve Winwood's new independently released CD "About Time".

The collaboration between Winwood and "Access Hollywood" marks the first time the online peer to peer services have been used to advertise and promote commercial music.
