Music Goes Loca

Published: 2003-11-25
In an age where record companies are holding a tighter reign on the catalogues and copyrights of artists the British company Loca Records is doing just the opposite. Loca will permit any who want permission to copy, rework and release their music. The only criteria is that the original creator must be given credit for his work and the new work is subject to the same rules of availability for release and copying.

Artists who work with Loca do not sign exclusive contracts. The artists get a percentage of record sales – as does Loca. At this time Loca only has a handful of musicians on the label and their records are only available in Europe. Loca's concept gives new artists an opportunity to make money. Few new artists are signed to major labels these days because the labels only want artists who are tried and can guarantee profits.
