The Delays Stop in Canada

Published: 2004-06-23
For one date only, English band the Delays will play their unique rock for Canadian audiences. The band will be appearing at the Mod Club in Toronto on July 19th. The Delays have a total of nine dates scheduled for what is their very first North American tour.

Although the group has just released its debut album, titled 'Faded Seaside Glamour', the Delays have already made big waves in the UK. All of the band's singles have gone Top 40 in their homeland, if not Top 20. The first single lifted off of the group's 2004 debut was 'Hey Girl', followed by 'Long Time Coming' and finally their most recent 'Nearer Than Heaven'.

Comprised of four pretty boys, the Delays look as if they would be the next big pop band, but they are far from it. 'Faded Seaside Glamour' is pure indie rock, a testament to what happens when four people love music, and not money. Their album was released on Rough Trade records, home to other indie darlings like Belle & Sebastian and British Sea Power.

To expel any further thoughts of pop-dom, a quick listen to one of the Delays' songs is all that is needed. Lead singer Greg Gilbert possesses a voice that could never be recreated using any amount of technological manipulation. Part James Dean Bradfield (of the Manic Street Preachers) with a tiny bit of the Darkness' Justin Hawkins thrown in for good measure, Gilbert's vocals are one of the Delays defining attributes.
