Jill Barber Goes It Alone

Published: 2004-06-15
Canadian songstress Jill Barber will be playing all around the Eastern part of the country this summer. She'll be performing on the same stage with acts like Wintersleep, the Rheostatics and her brother Matthew Barber, another accomplished singer-songwriter (some families have all the talent). So far Barber has 12 dates scheduled, with four of them in Toronto.

The songs Barber will be playing at these shows will be taken off of her recently released EP and her debut album which was dropped in 2002. The EP in question is called 'Oh Heart' and contains six songs that feature Barber's unique, warbling voice and old-time jazz inspired indie pop. 'Oh Heart' was released on Dependent Music this March.

Barber's debut album, on the other hand, had no help from a label. After the demise of her band Bent Ivy, Barber released 'A Note To Follow So' all on her own. To support the truly independently released record, Barber toured tirelessly with artists like Joel Plaskett and the Be Good Tanyas. And the touring hasn't stopped yet…

Jill Barber's upcoming dates:

June 18 Toronto – The Rivoli
June 23 Toronto – The Horseshoe
June 24 Wakefield – The Blacksheep Inn
June 26 Waterford Beach – Shoreline Festival
June 30 Toronto – Lee's Palace
July 3 Halifax – Marquee Club
July 5 Charlottetown – Baba's Lounge
July 9 to 11 Orilla – Mariposa Festival
July 15 Toronto – C'est What
July 23 to 25 Perth – Stewart Park Folk Festival
July 28 Guelph – E-Bar
August 7 Kingston – Wolf Island Music Festival
