Calexico in Canada

Published: 2004-06-11
Venturing across the border to play a few dates in Canada is Tucson, Arizona band Calexico. The group will be making five stops on the western side of the country before heading back down into the States to finish off their fifteen date tour. Calexico will be touring with their full band line-up.

Although Calexico consists of six musicians, the core of the group is centered around just two of them. Guitarist/vocalist Joey Burns and skinsman John Convertino are the masterminds behind the group, and have been there from the very start. Together they released the band's first record in 1997, an LP called 'The Spoke LP'.

Since then Calexico has released six full-length albums, their most latest being 'Feast of Wire'. Featured on the record is the same eclectic style on all of Calexico's previous efforts; their sound ranges from to full on post-rock. Using a variety of instruments including piano, pedal steel and vibraphone, the group hit the mark. 'Feast of Wire' was dropped early last year, and has been called the band's most exciting and confident release.

Most recently the band released an EP on Quarterstick records called 'Convict Pool'. The record contains both covers and original songs, with seven tracks in total. 'Convict Pool' was put on shelves this past April.
