Summer of The Populars

Published: 2004-06-09
The warm weather that the summer months bring coaxes most everyone out of their winter hiding spots. Canadian artists are no exception to that rule, and most are apt to take advantage of the sunny season and tour their asses off. One of the groups that will be traipsing around the country this summer is Alberta band the Populars.

The three-piece will be travelling across Canada, bringing their music to all who want it. One of the band's performances will be a gig in Toronto as part of the NXNE festival. Summer touring shouldn't be too hard of a slog for the Populars, as they've experienced worse; the boys toured for 7 years straight as backing band for Mike Plume. Now that takes some stamina.

Although the band hasn't released a record yet, it won't be long until that milestone is reached. The Populars' debut EP will soon be unleashed upon the world, brandishing their modern day hard-rock proudly. To listen to some of the band's songs, go to their website at

According to their site, the Populars' credo is simple: passion over fashion. The goal of the band is to make good music, not simply look pretty, like so many of today's artists choose to do.

The dates the Populars have scheduled so far:

June 10 Toronto – Club 279 (NXNE)
June 11 Oshawa – The Atria
June 19 Hamilton – Jackson Square
June 24 Sudbury – Townehouse
July 1 Milton – The Hardball CafÈ
July 8 Montreal – Le Swimming
July 9 Wakefield – The Black Sheep Inn
July 10 Kingston – G-Spot
July 15 Saskatoon – Patricia Hotel
July 31 Bonnyville – Lakeland Music Festival
