The Streets In Canada

Published: 2004-06-08
British rap sensation the Streets will be playing two shows in Canada during his North American tour. The tour kicks off in San Francisco on June 11th and carries on until July 3rd, when it wraps up in Atlanta. The Streets, also known as Mike Skinner, will be touring in support of his newest record.

The new record is the highly anticipated 'A Grand Don't Come For Free', which was released on May 18th to rave reviews. The record is actually a concept album about an ordinary guy named Mike (oddly enough). First single 'Fit But You Know It' has been climbing it's way up the U.K. charts with lightening speed. 'A Grand' is the Streets' sophomore album; his first was called 'Original Pirate Material' and was dropped in late 2002.

The music that Mike Skinner creates under the Streets isn't easily classifiable, although rap and garage come close to describing his sound. However, his music isn't at all like the typical gangsta rap that most North Americans are familiar with. Skinner writes about what he knows (which is English life, not tough times in South Central) and is really very polite about it.

Canadian dates of the Streets:

June 25 Toronto – Mod Club
June 26 Montreal – Club Soda
