Sixth Annual Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards

Published: 2004-06-02
To celebrate and recognize the music of Canada's first nations and to promote and acknowledge the keepers of Aboriginal music, the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards were created. This year the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards will celebrate six years of honouring Aboriginal musicians by adding five new categories to the existing 29 award categories.

Now through June 30 the advisory committee is accepting entries from first nation, Metis, and Inuit musicians. Three nominees for each category will be chosen from the entries. The CAMAs will be presented on Friday November 26 in Toronto. With the exception of traditional and pow-wow music all entries must be original music – CDs must be 80 percent original material. To obtain an entry form go to www.canab.com or call 519-751-0040.

The list of nominating categories proves that music in the Aboriginal community has gone far beyond the traditional chants heard on old TV westerns and pow-wows.
