Montreal Festivals This Summer

Montreal kicks off the summer season with a series of festivals that will send the non-traditional music fan into fits of ecstasy. Celebrating its fifth year MUTEK - Music, Sound, and New Technology – kicks things off on Wednesday June 2. MUTEK is the computer generated music fan's dream come true. On tap to perform during the five day festival are:

Mike Shannon

Next up is the fourth year for Suoni Per Il Popolo. The free range festival of music spanning everything from African rhythms to neo-klezmer and just about anything in between is sponsored by Casa del Popolo, Sala Rossa, and El Salon. Opened minded (and eared) music fans will enjoy the vast variety of sound being offered at the festival which runs from June 3 to June 27. Some featured record labels at Suoni Per II Popolo are:

Friday June 4 to Sunday June 6 will bring Montreal's first ever International Reggae Festival. The festival will feature every aspect of reggae music from roots sounds to DJ dance music. Some artists scheduled to perform at this new festival are:

Buju Banton
Mikey Dread
Jah Cutta
Kali Roots
Kulcha Connection
Half Pint (who is also scheduled to receive a Lifetime
Achievement Award)

Montreal's Fringe festival kicks off on June 10 and runs through June 20.

And finally for the drinking crowd is the Mondial de la Biere festival June 2 to 6. Various beers and ciders will be on hand for visitors to sample – for a fee.
