'Unity' At The Olympics

Published: 2004-05-31
Absolutely everything needs a soundtrack. Movies, sitcoms, and reality series all have them, so why not the Olympics? Music for the summer games is coming out in full force this year, and EMI is the company behind it.

Three albums will be released for the 2004 Olympic Games, each featuring a different genre of music. One of the albums is titled 'Phos' and contains Greek music, while 'Harmony' has classical performances.

The album that most people are talking about is one called 'Unity'. This particular Olympic record features pop musicians, and has a theme of peace running throughout its tracks. Included on the album is Canadian Avril Lavigne's cover of Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' which also appeared on the 'War Child: Hope' album.

The artists featured on the Olympic album are from 15 different countries around the globe, and are using the world event as a platform for their message of peace. Many of the songs on 'Unity' are duets and collaborations that show just that: unity. American rocker Lenny Kravitz performs with Iraqi Kadim Al Sahir on 'We Want Peace'; U.S. rapper/producer Timbaland works with Kiley Dean and Utada, an artist from Japan.

'Unity' is slated for release on August 10th, with all the proceeds going to UNICEF, an organization which benefits children around the world.
