Green Day sets New Release Date

Published: 2004-05-21
Green Day has finally revealed the release date of their new album. 'American Idiot', the band's sixth studio album, will be dropped on September 14th. For the record Green Day once again worked with producer Rob Cavallo (L7, Fleetwood Mac) who also worked on 'Nimrod' and 'Insomniac'.

When Rolling Stone spoke to the trio in March, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong reported that the band would be recording thirty five songs which they would then whittle down to a select few that will appear on the album. The main goal of Green Day is to produce an album with a recurrent theme in its songs, not just a mangle of singles.

The last album that Green Day released was 'Warning'. It will be four years this October since that disc was placed on shelves. The band once again roped down Cavallo to produce 'Warning' back in 2000. Probably the best known album that Green Day has released to date is 1994's 'Dookie'. It was released at the height of the grunge scene and ended up being a landmark album, not in that particular genre but for the entirety of the early 90s sound. 'Dookie' ushered in the era of punk revival.

Whether they want to be or not Green Day is partially responsible for the creation of the genre pop-punk. They've given the world classic songs such as 'Basket Case' and 'Brain Stew' that are used purely for good and never evil. And who could forget the aptly named 'Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)' that was used as a teary soundtrack for high school graduations across the globe.
