The Rheostatics Currently Recording

Published: 2004-05-20
They just played at Lee's Palace in Toronto on May 14th, but the Rheostatics haven't released any new material since 2001. However all that is about to change as they are currently in the recording studio laying down tracks for a new album. The band is planning to have the as-yet-untitled record ready for release in late fall of this year. The album will be the band's first with Canada's original indie label True North records.

Known for their love of their country (they're even more Canadian than Sam Roberts) the Rheostatics have made quite an impression on Canada's music scene. Although they've never broken into the mainstream, and presumably haven't made a lot of money, the Rheos garner respect from their fans and their fellow musicians alike. In fact the Tragically Hip just can't get enough of them.

They're funny too; the very first album the Rheostatics released was called 'Greatest Hits'. That was in 1987, and since then the band has released nine more studio albums. The new album will mark their tenth (obviously). The Rheos also recently released a live DVD of a 2001 performance at the Horseshoe Tavern. For more information on how to get your sticky hands on the DVD, go to the band's website at www.rheostatics.ca/.
