The Beach Boys Prepare For Summer Tour

Published: 2004-05-12
They were the only band in the US that could come close to competing with The Beatles; and in the process became America's first, best rock band. They are The Beach Boys. In 1964 the Beach Boys had all five of their albums on the charts at the same time.

The Beach Boys began in 1961 with brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson; cousin Mike Love; and friend Al Jardine. Over the years the Beach Boys continued to tour with varying line ups including country boy Glen Campbell and "I Write the Songs" songwriter Bruce Johnston. The Beach Boys are preparing to hit the road again this summer. Mike Love is the only original member still with the group. Bruce Johnston joins Love on the tour.

Last summer the Beach Boys released a 30 song compilation of their hits called "Sounds of Summer". An audio DVD version of the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" was also released containing the original 13 tracks plus seven new songs, track by track notes, and a photo gallery.

July 30 Grand Beach – Manitoba Summer Fest
August 12 Casino Rama
August 13 Chautauqua, NY – Chautauqua Amphitheatre
August 14 Canandaigua, NY – Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center

In other Beach Boys news, Brian Wilson is "Getting' in Over My Head". The new solo album is being released on June 22.

The album title could also refer to Wilson's upcoming television appearance. Wilson will lend his voice and be animated in an upcoming Duck Dodgers episode. Wilson will be a spiritual advisor to Duck Dodgers. No word on whether Wilson's animated self will be human or duckified. Wilson also contributes the musical composition "Believe in Yourself" to the show. Teletoon will carry the show for Canadian audiences.
