Nashville Label Releases JamGrass Sessions

The independent Nashville record label Compendia Records has reacted in a way to capitalize on the popularity of music from soundtracks like "Cold Mountain" and the earlier release "O Brother Where Art Thou?". By working with producer Bil VornDick, the JamGrass sessions were created by taking rock songs and putting them to a bluegrass sound.

The first in a series of albums "JamGrass – A Phish Tribute" was released in March. The second album "Return to Cold Mountain" will be released on May 25. A few of the tunes on "Return to Cold Mountain" are "Old Joe Clark", "Pretty Polly", and the "Black Mountain Rag". The third and last album planned so far will be a tribute to the Dave Mathews Band. It is scheduled for release sometime in July. "I wanted to put an extreme front end to bluegrass that college kids could party to," said project producer Bil VornDick. The project has been a success, but it isn't just for college kids.
