He "Thanked God I'm a Country Boy" but he took his name to honour the area of the Rockies he loved so well. The singer songwriter humanitarian was born Henry John Deutschendorf on New Year's Eve 1943. In the 70s at the height of his popularity – John Denver was everyone's favourite clean cut fair haired boy. Denver died in October of 1997 when his experimental plane crashed.

As a tribute to John Denver and his music, Cherry Lane Music has released a songbook and CD "Poems, Prayers and Promises: The Art and Soul of John Denver". The songbook and CD are also the title of Denver's fourth album – the one that launched his string of hits. The songbook contains 23 of Denver's best loved songs like "Sunshine on My Shoulder", "Leaving on a Jet Plane", and Rocky Mountain High."

The CD contains acoustic versions of "Calypso", "Mother Nature's Son", and "Take Me Home Country Roads". The songs were taken from a performance in 1987 and are previously unreleased versions.

The songbook and CD also contain never before seen photos and concert memorabilia as well as commentary by close friends.
