Rita MacNeil Releases New Album

Cape Breton native, Rita MacNeil, is out to prove that you are never too old to play music. On May 28, MacNeil will celebrate her sixtieth birthday. She began making albums in her 40s and this week she has released another, "Blue Roses". While she has released 20 albums in 20 years and loves songwriting, Rita MacNeil is very shy when it comes to playing before a live audience.

MacNeil said that "Blue Roses" is an album that is more about the writing than the performing. The 10 original tracks reflect more on lost loves and opportunities. However, the album is also about hope, joy, and the search for peace.

Besides making music Rita MacNeil recently taped an episode of "Trailer Park Boys". She plays herself while the boys try to kidnap her and her bus. The episode airs later this month.

Being herself on the stage or TV isn't all Rita MacNeil does. In an age when makeovers are the norm, MacNeil refuses to jump on the bandwagon. MacNeil says she has gotten this far the way she is and has no plans to make any changes.

In September MacNeil will tape a television special for CTV and make a cross Canada tour for Christmas.

She hit the ground running with twenty albums in 20 years and she shows no signs of slowing down. "I don't think I ever want to look at retirement." said MacNeil.
