Canada Welcomes the Von Bondies Back

Published: 2004-05-06
Detroit buzz band the Von Bondies are coming to Canada this summer. Unfortunately the group is planning to play only two dates outside of the borders of their nation of birth. The Vons will be toting their instruments and gear across North America in support of their major label debut 'Pawn Shoppe Heart'.

Comprised of two males, and two females, the Von Bondies could certainly be considered an equal rights group; Jason Stollsteimer takes care of both guitar and vocal duties, Don Blum pounds on the drums while Marcie Bolen strums madly away on her guitar and Carrie Smith plucks to her heart's content on bass. Every once and a while Smith even steals vocal duties away from Stollsteimer, as demonstrated on 'Pawn Shoppe Heart' song, 'Not That Social'. In other words, the band expertly plays up the guy/girl dynamic to their advantage.

There isn't anything that will help a band to find the spotlight of the music industry so much as being from Detroit. Any band that comes out of that particular city is considered music gold right off the bat nowadays. Comparative to Seattle in the early nineties and L.A. in the eighties, Detroit is fast becoming the city that will define the first musical decade of the new millennium. In addition to being where the members of the Von Bondies rest their feet, Detroit is home to such bands as the Soledad Brothers, the Dirtbombs and most notably the White Stripes

Even though this new generation of Detroiters is making quite a racket, let us not forget the MC5 or the glory days of motown.

June 1 Toronto – The Opera House (All Ages)
June 15 Vancouver – Richard's on Richards (No Minors)
