New Phish Album and Bonus DVD

Published: 2004-05-05
The Vermont band has perfected the art of the "musical costume", a tradition started back in 1994 at a Halloween night concert. When Phish dons the "musical costume" they play an entire album of some famous rock band. The Beatles' "White Album" was Phish's first "costume". Since then they have covered The Who, Talking Heads, Velvet Underground, and most notably Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

Phish is a band who is meant to be seen live. Their shows are constantly evolving. Before they even had a recording contract Phish sold out two consecutive nights at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. They were the first band to ever do so. Phish has also filled venues like Madison Square Garden. Their large and loyal fan base and their permission for fans to tape the concerts are a couple of the reasons for the large crowds they draw. Fans are even encouraged to record the concerts and swap tapes with other fans. By mixing up the set lists, fans are more willing to attend multiple shows because they aren't sure what they will hear.

One thing Phish fans have not heard live are the tracks from the band's newest album "Undermind" which will be released June 15. The new album contains a bonus DVD which contains a 26 minute documentary on the making of the CD. "Undermind" is the band's eleventh album. Phish's success as a live band has not transferred over to record sales; however.

Phish is a band who were meant to be seen live, but the band has only a few shows planned for the summer. Unfortunately, none of them are in Canada.
