ŽWe Were Born In A FlameŪ Sees U.S. Relaunch

He could be called the definition of a true Canadian with his scruffy beard, lumberjack attire and constant desire to wear a parka no matter what the weather conditions. Not to mention the fact that his lyrics feature Canada and embody what the country is all about. It's also not wise to forget his dedication to this land of ours, which he's toured across numerous times, bringing his rock to each and every citizen, never embarrassed about where his roots have sprung him from (even though the roots of the Barenaked Ladies, Celine Dion and Simple Plan also reside there). Yes, you've guessed it; it's Sam Roberts and he's about to show the United States what Canadian music is all about÷again.

Like many acts before him, Roberts has had trouble breaking the American music market. He's really only had success in his native land, where it seems the people can just not get enough of him, awarding him with four Junos this year. Old Sammy even managed to steal Album of the Year away from the almighty Dion herself (and she's sold over 150 million records and that's a lot). It seems those big awards may help Roberts in his quest of making an appearance on the American charts.

Universal may end up being sorry that they dropped Roberts after his album only managed to get dismal sales before his Juno victory. Lost Highway records, on the other hand, might be very glad that event occurred. The label decided to pick up Roberts and his crew after the separation and will re-release his debut album 'We Were Born In A Flame' stateside sometime in August. Roberts can now count Johnny Cash, Ryan Adams and Elvis Costello among his label mates.

In addition to getting an American release, Roberts made his way down to SXSW this year, to show the United States just why Canada loves him so much. And indeed, Roberts did receive some very shiny reviews from the American press after he showed off his potential moneymaking skills. That's even where scouts from Lost Highway first found him, or so the story goes.
